Your story has shaped you

Our experiences influence how we see ourselves, relate to others, respond to difficulty, and understand God. Yet many of us enter adulthood without ever slowing down to consider how these experiences have shaped who we have become and impact our relationships

Becoming creates a place to do just that. Through structured teaching, personal reflection, practical application, and community, you'll begin developing greater language and understanding for your story while considering what God may be doing in and through it.

You might find yourself asking:

  • Why do I react this way?

Begin to understand the experiences and patterns behind some of your emotional responses.

  • Why do I keep getting stuck here?

Explore patterns that may have once helped you cope but no longer help you move forward.

  • Why are certain relationships so difficult?

Consider how your story has influenced the way you experience connection, conflict, trust, and belonging.

  • What is God doing in my story?

Explore suffering, redemption, and the ways God may use your experiences for healing, growth, and purpose.

A BRIDGE BETWEEN COUNSELING + CHURCH MINISTRY

Becoming provides an opportunity for deeper personal and spiritual growth within a supportive, Christ-centered community. It incorporates principles of Narrative Focused Trauma Care (NFTC) to help participants understand how story, relationships, suffering, and our experiences shape the ways we see ourselves, others, and God.

Becoming is an educational and formational program, not therapy. It can complement professional counseling through education, reflection, community, and opportunities for personal and spiritual growth.

the becoming journey

Start with eight weeks. Continue for up to 24.

Becoming is designed as a three-phase journey. Each eight-week experience builds upon the one before it, moving from understanding your own story toward greater wellness and, for those who continue, learning to walk well with others.

  • PHase 1: understanding your story

    WEEKS 1-8

Begin by understanding what has shaped you.

Develop language and understanding around your experiences, relationships, emotions, suffering, and the patterns that influence who you are today.

  • phase 2: Story Group Intensive

    WEEKS 9-16

Move from understanding toward greater wholeness.

Process through specific experiences of harm in such a way new meaning and greater depths of insight are discovered, as you move toward Becoming more Fully Alive.

  • phase 3: Walking With Others

    WEEKS 17-24

Let what God is doing in you shape how you care for others.

Develop skills in listening, presence, group participation, and leadership. For those interested in serving, completion of the full pathway can provide preparation toward lay counseling ministry at Northland Church.

Rooted in story.
Centered on redemption.

Becoming incorporates principles of Narrative Focused Trauma Care (NFTC), which recognizes the important role our stories and relationships play in shaping how we understand ourselves, others, and God.

Rather than approaching our stories with shame or judgment, we learn to engage them with greater curiosity and compassion. As we begin naming what has shaped us, we can recognize patterns, better understand our responses, and consider how God may be bringing healing, growth, and redemption within our stories.

important to know:

Becoming is education and formation, not therapy.

Becoming provides education, support, encouragement, reflection, and community around story and personal growth. It does not diagnose, assess, evaluate, or treat mental health conditions and does not provide crisis intervention.

Becoming may complement professional counseling, but it is not a substitute for care from a licensed mental health professional when professional treatment is needed.
